About Croatia

Located on the Adriatic Sea in Southeastern Europe, Croatia shares borders with Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Slovenia. It declared its independence in 1991, and although it still took some years of fighting to stabilize, it is now a solid parliamentary democracy. Included in the country are many islands in the Adriatic Sea; all together, Croatia has 5,835 km of coastline. The country controls most of the land routes between Western Europe and the Turkish Straits and Aegean Sea. The climate is both Mediterranean as well as continental, with the latter being more prevalent and giving rise to cold winters and hot summers. Along the coast, it is more temperate.

Studying Business in Croatia

Although the national language is Croatian, given that English is considered the language of business, you can study business in Croatia in that language at several institutions. You will find both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business available, and some schools offer various specializations such as marketing, management, finance, human resources and information systems. In some cases, the institution is an affiliate or branch of a university based in another country.

The length of time it will take to get your degree in Croatia will depend on the particular program that you choose. In general, a bachelor’s program will last four years, while a master’s degree is one or two years in length.

Courses of study are often set up according to a semester calendar with fall and spring sessions, usually from September through May; a summer course schedule may be available or required as well. As is typical, online options are more flexible.

The cost of your education will vary depending on where you choose to study and the type of program that you opt for. A bachelor’s program can range from around 4375 to 5900 euros per year. This does not include additional fees, books, supplies or cost of living. Examination fees for overseas affiliates are also not included. A one-year MBA program may cost twice that, and there may be an option for part-time study as well.

Getting a business degree in Croatia is a great opportunity for students who are interested in working in international business. It is especially beneficial if you take advantage of internship placements, as working here will provide learning opportunities you would not be able to get elsewhere. As a still-developing economy, the business climate here will be quite different than in some other countries. If you choose a program that has affiliations with overseas institutions, you may further enhance your marketability for employment after graduating.
