Study Business in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an island located in the Caribbean, between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It is found east of the Dominican Republic. The climate is mild tropical with little variation in temperature throughout the year. It is in an important shipping lane for trade en route to the Panama Canal and has one of the best and biggest natural harbors in the Caribbean, that of San Juan. Puerto Rico was given to the United States after the Spanish-American war, and it is now a territory of the U.S. with commonwealth status. Its people are considered as U.S. citizens.

Studying Business in Puerto Rico

There are a great many institutions where it is possible to study business in Puerto Rico. Despite its status as an American territory, most of the programs are only offered in Spanish. You may find programs at the associate’s degree level as well as at the bachelor’s and at the master’s levels. There are also some places that offer certificates in various specialties.

Different programs require different times for completion, depending on the institution and which degree you are studying for. In general, as in the U.S., associate’s degrees will take two years and bachelor’s degrees will take four. Master’s degrees will typically require two or three years to complete.

The academic calendar generally follows a semester-based schedule, with two semesters: one beginning in August and the other in January. There is also often a shorter summer course schedule which may not be mandatory. Some programs offer the possibility of part-time study.

The cost of any business degree will depend on which degree you are studying for and the institution where you decide to enroll. A bachelor’s degree could range from $20,000 to $24,000 U.S., while a master’s degree could run you between $10,000 and $12,000 U.S. Financial consideration is sometimes given to people who are native to Puerto Rico. These costs are for tuition only and do not include other fees or additional costs for books, supplies, room and board.

With the beautiful weather you’ll enjoy, there’s a lot to like about studying in Puerto Rico. With its unique position of being part of the United States but very much a Latin and Caribbean culture, you’ll be poised to learn about the intricacies of doing business in both. The territory status is an extra benefit for prospective students from the U.S., as there will be no need for a visa in order to live and study here. For anyone considering a career in international business, studying overseas can improve your ranks in the competition when searching for employment.
